Entryway Sensor Deployment Planning

Introduction

This article is intended to be used in combination with Marking Up Your Floorplans. This document

provides guidance for planning the deployment/placement of the VergeSense EN-1 Entryway Sensor.

Common Use Cases

The entryway sensor only needs to be placed at the entryway of the space it is intended to monitor. This makes it ideal for spaces where placing a sensor within the space is not suitable or desirable.

  • Building entryways

  • Floor entryways

  • Stairway entries

  • Restroom entries

  • Gyms

  • Lockroom

  • Cafeterias

  • Lobbys

  • Contained outdoor spaces (Roof decks)

  • Auditoriums

Obstructions

Obstacles hanging from the ceiling (signs, air conditioners, lamps or decoration, etc.) may limit the sensors' coverage area. Whenever possible ensure the sensor is mounted below a potential obstruction. When that is not possible, consult your VergeSense Solutions Architect to understand the impact of the obstruction on the performance of the sensor. Common obstructions are:

  • Lighting

  • Exit signs

  • HVAC ducting and equipment

  • IT cabling trays

  • Fire suppression pipework

  • Architectural features

Positioning Single Sensor

The sensor must be mounted from the entryway using the below measurements based on the installation height. When the sensor is placed too close to the door the coverage is cut off, leading to problems with people entering the scene from the door side.

  • The doorway of interest must be completed within the coverage area of the sensor for the sensor to function correctly.

  • The doorway of interest is approx. 1ft from the edge of the coverage area.

  • A single sensor can be used to cover multiple doorways if both as within the coverage area.

  • Center the sensor in front of the door whenever possible.

  • When mounting at heights that are not whole numbers, round down to the nearest whole number and use the maximum distance for the rounded-down height. For instance, if the height is 2.83m or 2.87m, round down to 2.80m and use the mounting distance for that height, rather than rounding up to 2.90m. This approach ensures the sensor is mounted within the recommended distance.
  • The recommendation is to mount sensor as close to the maximum distance as possible.

Site Survey

Gathering data and measurements for each entryway location will help VergeSense provide proper guidance and support for your installation.

Items needed to complete the site survey:

  • Floor plan showing sensor locations

  • Doorway and ceiling measurements

  • Photographs of the doorway and ceiling

Floor Plans

If VergeSense has provided you with a floor plan markup, please number the entryway sensor locations. If VergeSense has yet to create a floor plan markup, please mark the areas of interest.

Entryway and Ceiling Measurements

Entryway and ceiling measurements allow VergeSense to place the sensor for maximized accuracy.

For each entryway, please provide:

  • Entryway height and width

  • Clearance above entryway

  • Ceiling height

  • Ceiling type (drop ceiling, concrete, glass, etc.)

Entryway Photographs

Photographs will allow VergeSense to determine the required mounting methods and identify any potential obstructions.

Please share a photo of the entryway along with a photo that shows the environment and ceiling. Stepping back will provide a wide view of the space.
