The VergeSense Space Optimization solution features the battery-operated, wireless L302 area sensor. To install them with the universal mounting brackets, follow the guidelines below.
Sensor Mounting: Horizontal Surfaces
The wireless L302 sensor comes with two pre-installed magnets, which directly mount to the ferrous metal surfaces. If there is a requirement to meet SDS=2.0 building code, additional bumpers installation on the sensor is required.
Specifications
- Attach to the metal surface not less than 1/8” thick
- Allows mounting for ceiling <12’ in height.
- The sensor weighs 0.51 lbs.
- Sensor housing includes (2) magnets with a magnetic load of 4.66 lbs each. Magnets are pre-installed on the backplate at the factory.
To meet SDS 2.0 Building Code Compliance
- Install (2) clear bumpers (McMaster p/n 95495K24 or equivalent) with adhesive-backed bumpers installed at 90° to the two magnets (Fig 2)
- Two bumpers have a height of 0.234” which is below 0.25” magnet height
Performance Criteria
- Meets the specific required building codes for attachment of non-structural
components as defined in 2018 IBC ASCE 7-16 code - Bumpers prevent the sensor from rocking and/or sliding during dynamic events
Caution
- Do not mount on the pipes or other surfaces that are not flat.
- Do not mount on a surface area less than 3.25”x 3.25” to contact with bumpers
and magnets - Do not mount to metal plate surfaces exposed to, and/or will experience, or
vibratory forces - The metal surface shall not be less than 1/8” thick

Sensor Mounting: Flat Bracket on Horizontal Surfaces
Use the metal plate to install the sensor on the non-metal horizontal surfaces for ceiling heights less than 12 feet in height. For the open ceiling greater than 12’ in height, install 3/8”-16 diameter threaded rod. If there is a requirement to meet SDS=2.0 building code, additional bumpers installation on the sensor is required.
Specifications
The flat bracket is 3.5”x3.5” and made from 16GA SGCC steel. There are four slots to accommodating up to #10 screw, the 3/8” diameter center hole is for the rod mounting.
For up to 12 feet ceiling height attach a flat plate with:
- Gypsum Board: Use (3) #8 x 1 ¼” Simpson SureWall Drywall Anchors.
- Concrete Surface: Simpson Titan Turbo Concrete and Masonry Screw Anchor. Use 3/16-inch x 2” embedment
- Attach the sensor to the flat plate (Fig 4)
- For SDS 2.0 Building code compliance, add two bumpers (Fig 2) and attach them to the metal plate (Fig 4)

For the ceiling height > 12’ feet in height (Fig 5) use 3/8-16 threaded rod for sensor mounting.
Threaded rod lengths < 2 feet (SDS 2.0 Building Code Compliant)
- Install bumpers on the sensors (Fig 1).
- Attach a flat bracket to the rod through the center hole with two 3/8-16 hex nuts on either side of the plate(Fig 5)
- Attach the sensor with bumpers (Fig 1) to the flat bracket.
Threaded rod lengths > 2 feet < 8 feet
- Install bumpers on the sensors (Fig 1).
- Attach a flat bracket to the rod through the center hole with 3/8-16 hex nuts on either side of the plate (Fig 5)
- Attach the sensor with bumpers to the flat bracket
Threaded rod lengths > 2 feet < 8 feet (SDS 2.0 Building Code Compliant)
- Remove existing magnets.
- Install four magnets with min force of 6lbs; K&J magnets P/N R822-N42
- Use 3M 4910 adhesive to attach four magnets as shown in (Fig 6)
- Attach a flat bracket to the rod through the center hole with 3/8-16 hex nuts on either side of the plate (Fig 5)
- Attach the sensor to the flat bracket.

Sensor Mounting: Angle Bracket on Vertical Surfaces
Assemble the flat metal plate section and the angled bracket section by snapping the individual sections together, this is will be used on a vertical surface <12 feet in height. If there is a requirement to meet SDS=2.0 building code, additional bumpers installation on the sensor is required.
Specifications
Assemble the individual flat metal plate section and the angled bracket section by snapping the flat and angled sections together (Fig7). Attach the sensor to the flat portion of the angled metal bracket assembly with pre-installed magnets.
The following anchoring methods are SDS 2.0 Building Code Compliant.
Fasteners, adhesives, and magnets are not included and will need to be procured by installers.
- Vertical Surface Metal: Use (2) #10-16 TEK3 Fasteners (Fig 8)
- Vertical Surface Drywall: Use (3) #8 x 1 ¼” Simpson Sure Wall Drywall Anchors. Simpson part number SWZ08LS-R100 (Fig 8)
- Vertical Surface Concrete: Use (2) 3/16-inch x 2” minimum embedment Simpson Titan Turbo Concrete and Masonry Screw Anchor (Fig 8)
- Vertical Surface glass or aluminum: Use (2) 3M VHB 4910 double-sided adhesive tape, 1.5”x 3” strips to attach to the vertical leg. Allow 24 hours to cure. (Fig 9).
- Vertical Surface Magnets: Use (2) 1 ½” Diameter Magnets RX822 – N42 1/8” thick, with a magnetic force of 20 lbs each, on the vertical leg. Allow 24 hours to cure. (Fig 10)

Performance Criteria
- Meets the specific required building codes for attachment of non-structural
components as defined in 2018 IBC ASCE 7-16 code. - The anchoring of the proprietary mounting systems with the attached sensor, two magnets, and two bumpers, complies with the code design requirements for the attachment of non-structural components or equivalent.
Caution
- Provide a location where that is secure and clean
- Vertical metal surface min/max thickness is 0.048” and 0.15”. For surface >0.15”, pre-drill the holes
- Gypsum board thickness from 3/8” through 5/8”
- Concrete thickness shall not be less than 4”
- The minimum distance from the free edge of the structure should be 4” between the free edge and the center of the fasteners.
- Adhesive, to achieve ultimate 3M bond strengths, 50% in 20 minutes, 90% in 24 hours, and 100% in 72 hours. The metal surface shall not be less than 1/8” thick
- For Magnets, the installation edge of the magnets cannot exceed ¼” from the vertical edges of the metal vertical leg of the mounting bracket. The mounting of the vertical leg of the mounting bracket shall not be less than ¾” from any edge of the structure’s steel surface to the edge of the vertical leg of the mounting bracket.
