Sensor Field of View Testing

Purpose

There are scenarios where the sensor’s field of view is difficult to calculate due to factors in the environment such as walls, lights, signs, etc. In these cases it may not be feasible to temporarily mount a sensor in order to test the field of view. The recommended approach is to use a C-stand in order to place the sensor in the desired position, receive a debug image and review.

Scenarios

Tier 4 mounting

A stand should be available for all deployments which require the installation of threaded rods. This is to reduce additional time, hardware, and debris by reducing the amount of rods used when testing different sensor placements.

Complex ceilings

Complex ceilings include surfaces where a temporary mount may not be possible due to the nature or height of the ceiling. They may include decorative ceiling, drywall, and glass surfaces. Note, the FoV stand should not be needed for every installation of this type, but rather when placement needs to be verified prior to permanent installation in especially complex scenarios such as the ones shown below.

Instructions

  1. Place stand and adjust height to the desired sensor location
  2. Install the sensor onto the stand (This can be done by attaching a metal universal plate to the stand arm with zip ties)
  3. Turn on and connect the sensor
  4. Review the sensor’s view in the installer tool
  5. If acceptable: Install the sensor
  6. Once sensor is installed initiate a new sensor debug image
  7. If unacceptable: move stand to different position
  8. Repeat until acceptable FOV is achieved
