Partnering with your IT Department
Partnering with IT is straightforward:
- IT validates the network setup and confirms compatibility
- VergeSense does not interfere with network operations
- The platform does not store or access raw PII
WiFi data is consumed via API and protected with SHA-256 one-way hashing and salting.
Supported Network Providers
VergeSense supports the following WiFi network providers:
- Cisco Spaces (Act and Extend Licenses)
- Cisco Meraki
- HPE Aruba Networks
Support for Juniper Mist is expected by the end of 2025.
API and Infrastructure Overview
The WiFi Occupancy integration is built using secure, Cisco-approved APIs:
- Data is pulled via API; VergeSense never accesses your network infrastructure directly
- VergeSense ingests data such as device location, device counts, and connection events
- All personally identifiable information (PII) is hashed before storage or processing
This ensures a seamless, secure experience with minimal IT risk.
Floorplan Mapping and Admin Access
For optimal accuracy, mapped floorplans are needed:
- Cisco Meraki: Active floorplans with mapped APs are required
- Cisco Spaces: Mapped APs are needed only for neighborhood-level data
Admins must have sufficient privileges in both the Cisco platform and VergeSense:
- Admin or Super Admin role is required in VergeSense
- Cisco Spaces users must be authorized via SSO or MFA during activation
Cisco Licensing (Act vs Extend)
VergeSense supports both Act and Extend Cisco Spaces licenses:
- Act License: Includes advanced data like DeviceLocation and DeviceCounts
- Extend License: More affordable and includes core data like LocationChange and DeviceCounts
Both license types are fully supported. Cisco Advantage DNA bundles often include Extend by default.
Use this matrix for app selection:
Desired Scope | License Type | App Name | Key Events |
Building, Floor, Neighborhood | Act | VergeSense | LocationChange, DeviceCounts |
Building, Floor, Neighborhood | Extend | VergeSense+ | LocationChange, DeviceLocation, DeviceCounts |
Building, Floor | Act or Extend | VergeSense | LocationChange, DeviceCounts |
Time to Implementation
Once the right roles and licensing are in place:
- Activation can be completed in minutes
- WiFi data begins populating in VergeSense within 1 business day
No additional hardware installation is required.
Do I need to install new infrastructure?
No. The WiFi Occupancy service leverages your existing access points.
- No new hardware is required
- A minimum of 3 access points per floor is recommended for location triangulation
Ongoing Upkeep
Ongoing upkeep is minimal:
- Share updated CAD files with VergeSense when floorplans change
- If SSID filtering is configured, adjustments can be made per building
The VergeSense team provides white glove implementation and troubleshooting support throughout the process to reduce IT lift and ensure success.
